our homes and staff
homes
Our four modern, family-style homes are in quiet, edge-of-town locations within easy reach of local amenities. Two are on the Hertfordshire/Essex border and can accommodate up to two young people each. The other two, which can each accommodate up to three young people, are on the outskirts of Braintree in Essex.
All Era Care homes are furnished to a high standard and offer separate, suitably equipped areas for education and well maintained gardens. Children and young people may have a TV in their bedroom, depending on behaviour and progress.
The young people are encouraged to participate in the general running of the home. Pending age and risk assessment, they may be involved in cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping and acquiring general life skills such as budgeting.
In addition to memberships of local leisure centres and gyms, there are options for a wide range of activities, many of which are loosely educationally based. In addition, children are often taken on holiday during school holiday periods.

Our normal staffing ratios are 2:1, 2:2 or 2:3. We consider even higher staffing ratios during the early part of a new placement, pending a full assessment.
Era Care staff are highly trained, with training continuing beyond their induction period. On completion of their probationary period, staff are enrolled on an NVQ (children and young people) Level 3.
